The Great American Challenge Continues... and Other Things

The Great American Challenge

Our Great American Challenge continues.  We are on the 2nd part of the challenge, students must write the Pledge of Allegiance with 3 or less spelling mistakes.  I have extended the deadline from April 22nd to April 29th.  Please practice this with your student.  A copy of the Pledge can be found in the back of your student's agenda.  After April 29th, we will move into the third part of the challenge.  Students will need to know the capitals of all 50 states.  Students will be given an alphabetical list of all states.  They will need to write the capital next to the state.  Spelling will not count in this challenge.  Please don't hesitate to email me with any questions.

President Writing

Because of track break, we recently finished up our president reports.  Students did a great job researching either George Washington or Abraham Lincoln and completing a "Did you know that..." in first person.  Please ask your student about this fun project.  You'll soon be seeing them coming home to hang up on your fridge.

Reading and Writing Projects

If you were able to make it to Back to School Night, you may remember me explaining that there is NEVER a time in the day when a student can say, "I don't know what to do."  Students are always able to work on projects when they finish up an assignment early.  I wanted to say how pleased I have  been with their work.  We have had so many great projects lately.  I know that you have seen many of them coming home in Monday folders.  Ask your student if he/she has completed any lately.  We always have at least one Project of the Week.  These last few weeks, there have been so many great ones, that I haven't been able to only pick.  As you can see from this picture, last week I chose two, so ask your student if he/she has been chosen as Project of the Week lately?
